  • Why take this exam?

Aptis offers an alternative to currently available high-stakes tests. It is designed to be adaptable to your requirements – whatever they may be.

Aptis is aimed at corporate organisations, government ministries, NGOs and education institutions. It can be used for a number of purposes including:

    • Benchmarking purposes
    • Language audits to identify training needs
    • Filtering potential future employees for interview
    • Filtering students to identify those ready for IELTS
    • Filtering current employees for promotion
    • As a diagnostic tool to identify strengths and weaknesses of people seeking employment
  • Exam format

Aptis is made up of a variety of different components which can be taken in packages rather than individually. Aptis consists of a core grammar and vocabulary component, which is combined with one of more of the skill components - reading, writing, listening or speaking – to form packages. If a client wishes to test a mix of skills, components can be combined to suit requirements. This allows clients to test only the skills needed.

Aptis candidates receive a profile of their results, rather than receiving a mark for each skill. Aptis scores are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and a candidate will receive a numerical score for the grammar and vocabulary sections, with their skill result shaping their CEFR scoring. This will make up the candidates profile of competency.

Aptis focuses on providing the candidate with a broad range of linguistic experiences during the test. This is done to ensure that an accurate and reliable estimate of their ability is achieved.

This is reached through the different modes of delivery Aptis offers:

    • Online and computer-based
    • Paper-based
    • Telephone
